40% of Internet enterprises and 90% of cross-border e-commerce enterprises in Hainan have gathered in Haikou, propelling the digital economy revenue of Haikou to surpass one trillion yuan in 2023. Selected as one of the first pilot cities for the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises, Haikou is showing initial signs of success in the technological innovation and development of the digital economy. The 3rd China International Consumer Products Expo (“the 3rd CICPE”) successfully hosted by Haikou attracted over 320,000 attendees and 3,382 exhibiting brands, marking a 19% increase over the previous session, and showcased a significant overflow effect as a large international exhibition. Top supply chain companies such as La Poste and SF Express have successively settled and gathered in Haikou, helping it rank among key strategic cities in the national modern distribution network. International renowned consumer brands such as LVMH, Tapestry and Estée Lauder have established a presence in Hainan, strategically positioning themselves in high-end consumer business modes including offshore duty-free shops, cross-border e-commerce, and Asia-Pacific distribution centers.
The ICC (Irish Casing Company) Group, the largest processor and supplier of beef, lamb, and pork by-products in the Northern Hemisphere, outputs 50,000 tons of edible by-products, 3 million hog casings, and 3 million sheep casings annually. Its main export markets include Europe, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. In November 2023, ICC Group signed an agreement with the Haikou Integrated Free Trade Zone (formerly Haikou Comprehensive Bonded Zone) to establish an imported meat processing production base. As ICC Group's first deep processing project in China, this base focuses on the production of snacks, cooked food, and frozen meat, and will explore the fields of central-kitchen products and prefabricated meals. The imported meat of ICC Group, which meets the policy requirement on the value added after processing in the Hainan Free Trade Port, may enjoy a reduction of 12%-25% in import duties.
Haima Automobile is expanding its overseas export business, intensifying efforts to explore the markets of countries engaged in the Belt and Road Initiative and concentrating resources to build two key overseas markets in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. On the other hand, in collaboration with Toyota, the company is transforming Hainan Island into a large-scale experiential testing ground. The project involves equipping Haima Automobile's third-generation hydrogen fuel cell vehicles with mature components and systems, including the second-generation Mirai fuel cell stack from Toyota. The project, which will commence demonstration operations in 2024, completes whole-vehicle adaptability development and promotes the popularization and industrialization of hydrogen fuel cell passenger vehicles.
