One month after launching landmark island-wide special customs operations on December 18, 2025, the Hainan Free Trade Port is reporting high efficiency and positive early data, as officials announced today at a press conference.
Key figures from the inaugural month (December 18, 2025, to January 18, 2026) highlight this positive momentum:

The province's airports and ports welcomed a total of 289,100 international arrivals and departures, with a daily average of 9,300 travelers, up 31.3% from the previous year. An average of 2,600 international travelers entered visa-free daily, a stunning surge of 64.3% year-on-year.

Sales at Hainan's island-departure duty-free stores hit approximately $700 million, jumping 46.8% year-on-year. A total of 745,000 shoppers drove the spending spree, representing a 30.2% increase in customer traffic.

The total volume of imports and exports reached $2.35 billion, up 3.6%. Notably, businesses imported products worth $108 million under the ‘zero-tariff’ policy, a 38.9% increase, leading to tax savings of $15.6 million—a jump of nearly 195%.

The island province attracted 26,800 newly registered market entities, including 21,000 new enterprises, representing a 16.42% increase year-on-year.
